CEO Welcome

Come Home to United Medical Center

Welcome to United Medical Center (UMC). Specialty Hospitals of America (SHA) acquired our hospital on November 7, 2007. The acquisition of UMC is the result of a unique contractual relationship with the government of the District of Columbia. SHA contracted with Quorum Health Resources (QHR) to manage the hospital and lead the financial and operational turn-around. QHR provides seasoned executives in interim positions of Chief Executive Officer, Chief Reorganization Officer, and Chief Financial Officer, as well as other experienced consultants.

The leadership team, our medical staff, and our clinical and support staff have made major improvements in our quality of care, customer service and financial performance. We have replaced much of our patient care equipment; repaired and replaced roofs; complied with all safety and environment of care standards; and we are replacing the windows and curtain wall in the eight-story patient tower. Uniquely, we have rebuilt our Emergency Department by expanding services, lowering patient wait times, improving clinical outcomes, and replacing several physicians and staff.

We are completely rebuilding our Radiology (Imaging) Department by replacing and adding the following equipment: MRI, CT scan, Fluoroscopy, Nuclear Medicine, Interventional Angiography, Portable C-Arm, two basic Radiology examination rooms, and two portable X-Ray Machines.

We also plan to replace all Surgery and Endoscopy equipment and to renovate the Surgery Department.

Health care professionals all over D.C. and the Metro area are coming back to UMC, and over 75 new physicians have joined or rejoined our medical staff since SHA began leading and managing United Medical Center.

If you are seeking a primary care physician, medical-surgical specialist, out-patient surgery, endoscopy, testing or therapy, an emergency department or a hospital for your in-patient medical-surgical health care needs, come home to United Medical Center. We wish good health.

Sincerely,

Frank G. DeLisi
Chief Executive Officer
